PM Arrives in Indonesia for 42nd ASEAN Summit

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen will attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit under the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentre of Growth" in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia from May 10-11, 2023.The Prime Minster, along with First Lady Bun Rany, departed with the Cambodian delegation from the Phnom Penh International Airport at 7:45am and arrived safely in Indonesia at 1:15pm local time on May 9.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, Minister of Commerce Pan Sosak, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and senior officials of the Royal Government in addition to members of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce.

ASEAN leaders will discuss ways and means to maintain the region’s momentum by promoting inclusion and community cooperation in accordance with the ASEAN Sustainable Development Agenda. They also plan to accelerate the development of the ASEAN Economic Community vision for 2025, which aims to transform the ASEAN region into a community focused on a future based in peace, stability, security, prosperity and resilience.

ASEAN leaders will discuss regional and international issues of common concern and interest, including the implementation of the ‘5-point consensus’ on Myanmar and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

During his stay in Labuan Bajo, Prime Minister Hun Sen will hold bilateral meetings with his ASEAN counterparts and some ASEAN dignitaries.

In preparation for the 42nd ASEAN Summit, DPM Prak Sokhon attended the 26th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM) in February, in addition to meetings with the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), and the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC).
